- Do not walk into a second hand store without a purpose. Are you looking for a sweater? Pants? Dresses? Have at least one target item and stick with it... it's easy to get distracted.
- Look for good brands and materials. A gently used Ann Taylor dress will usually hold up much better than a dress from Target in the long term.
- Set limits. No matter how great the price, I will not buy used shoes, leggings, swimwear, or undergarments (gross!).
- It's okay to buy nothing. Often, thrift stores can be hit-or-miss. One time you go in to find half a dozen great items and the next time you might find nothing. If the store doesn't have your target item, then walk out and try again another day.
- What's the fun if you can't splurge sometimes! Even if I don't need one, I always look at dresses. If the price is right, I'll almost always buy.
- Visit your favorite thrift stores and consignment shops frequently. The merchandise is always changing.
